Your guide will pick you up at 09:30AM at Aix-en-Provence train station or at your hotel in Aix-en-Provence area. Welcome on board for this commented full day excursion through Luberon. You will have a global panorama of culture, gastronomy and natural heritage of this picturesque corner of Provence.
Avignon was the capital of Christendom during the XIVth century. The historic city centre is listed as world heritage by UNESCO. You will be amazed to admire the full length ramparts, the famous St-Bénézet bridge (the Pont d'Avignon known by all French kids !) and above all, the biggest gothic palace in the world : the Pope's Palace.
The massif mountain of Luberon offers typical Provence landscapes: garrigue, olive trees, lavender fileds, vineyards and perched villages. This area is dominated by the Mourre Nègre, 1125 meters high. You will be seduced by the sinuous roads linking the perched villages to each other’s. A nice occasion to have a view at famous lovely places, attracting visitors from all over the world: Cucuron, Lourmarin, Bonnieux and above all Lacoste where the Marquis de sade was living. Luberon is an endless source of inspiration for painters or writers, or more recently film director.
Gordes belongs to the labelized group of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France". Hilltop typical village, you will love strolling in the sloping streets. The village is full of interesting monuments, such the castle, built around 1525 and the St-Firmin church, of which the bell tower is veru typical of Provence style.
Ocher has become the cornerstone of Roussillon's popularity. The village is today a highlight of Luberon, beguiling visitors thanks to its vivid colors. Sculpted by storms, this former ochre deposit today present enchanting scenery, which combines men and nature work. Cliffs, earth pillars, ocher-colored sand hillocks, after being dug out by shovels and picks, are henceforth shaped by the winds and rain.
Before heading back to Aix-en-Provence, enjoy a last stop at Lourmarin village. Classified as one of the most beautiful village in France as well, Lourmarin is also known as an artist's village. Many artists as the writers Albert Camus and Henri Bosco were attracted by this place surrounded by olive and almond trees.
This is the end of this extraordinary and genuine discovery of Luberon area. Your guide will drive you back to Aix-en-Provence train station or to your hotel in Aix-en-Provence area.
