Forests cover the main part of it, with traditional oaks, beeches, birches, and a rare tree called “faux” which is a local train beech (“hêtretortillard”). Wild orchids and more than 50 different sorts of flowers can also be found.
Speaking about forest in the Champagne region, it offers natural habitats for animals. You are sure to encounter wild boars, deer, foxes, and birds like pheasants, owls,and 21 species of bats.

The many lakes and wetlands are attractive to all the migratory birds: twice a year, going to Spain in fall or Germany or Scandinavia in spring, around 60 000 cranes come on the Der lake; but also bewick swan, aigrette, dragonfly….
